Gujrat: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Parvez Elahi on Friday (October 21) laid the foundation stones for three mega road infrastructure projects in Gujrat – which are to be developed with an accumulative estimated cost of PKR 13 billion, according to news sources.

As per the details shared, these projects include; a 29-kilometre-long expressway that will connect Kharian-Sambrial Motorway with Gujrat city and two main flyovers starting from the Chenab River’s side and ending at Gujrat city’s entrance. The cost for the expressway is estimated at PKR 9.11 billion, while both flyovers will be developed with PKR 4 billion.
During the foundation stone laying ceremony, the CM was briefed about the salient project features by Communication and Works Secretary Mujahid Sher Dil. It was highlighted that both flyovers were already approved by the federal government two years ago as part of the Samman-Dinga road project.

Moreover, it was revealed that one flyover will be constructed over the city’s entrance at Bypass Chowk, near River Chenab bridge, which will connect the national highway with an under-construction 35-kilometre-long Samman-Dinga Road. The other will be developed over the Kathala railway crossing on old GT Road.
The projects will be executed by Punjab Communications and Works and the initial funds will be provided by the federal government. Member of National Assembly (MNA) Moonis Elahi – who was also present for the event – stated that the expressway will assist the local traders through a direct link to the motorway.
