Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation (RMC) has started the process to shift the city’s streetlights to solar power, a news source reported. The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and the RMC aim to save ‘hundreds of thousands of rupees’ in electricity bills through this power source conversion.

The district government recently approved the project, soon after which the RMC started the process to shift streetlights to solar power. Under this approval, the RMC will shift all the city’s street lights, including those on main roads, four ways, and all major roads to solar power.

Moreover, the implementation of this project formally kicked off in Committee Chowk under the first phase. In the second phase, the corporation will install solar panels on all major intersections in the city. At the same time, work on beautifying the Committee Chowk is also underway.

Sources claim that the initiative will be completed by mid-June.
