Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) will start a survey of commercial and domestic buildings in the city to assess if they were constructed according to the approved building plan, according to a news story published in national dailies on April 12.

As per the details, the main purpose of the survey is to streamline the building department since most of the multi-storey buildings in the city were constructed without having their building plans approved by the civic body.
According to a senior RMC official, the survey will be started soon, which can take up to three to four months to complete. Once the survey is completed, fines will be imposed on builders/owners who constructed commercial and domestic buildings without seeking prior approvals.

The official further added that, once the survey completes, the RMC will be able to implement building bylaws, fire, and other safety measures that developed countries have listed as essential.
