Rawalpindi: The authorities concerned have decided to convert the old office building of Rawalpindi Municipal Cooperation (RMC) into a shelter home, reported a news source. The related arrangements in this regard are currently being finalised.
The building will serve as accommodation for those spending their nights on roads and footpaths. In order to issue directions for introduction of the needed amendments in the building, Federal Minister for Health Amir Mehmood Kiyani and Rawalpindi Development Authority Chairman Arif Abbasi paid a visit to the building. The building mainly served as storeroom for items confiscated during the encroachment drives, which is now being moved.
To make the building operational, furniture is being purchased and supply of related items is being ensured. It is expected that the home will be formally inaugurated next month. The ground floor of the building will be used as a mess, while rest of three floors will serve as the residential storeys. To help arrange funds for feeding the residents, the civil society has been requested to step forward.
