Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) carried out an operation against encroachments and demolished six shops in the process, a news source reported. An RMC team led by Municipal Officer Shahzad Haider carried out the drive.
The operation was carried out on Murree Road, Liaquat Bagh and Committee Chowk and the authorities demolished shutters, boards and other encroachments.
Haider said shopkeepers were sent notices ahead of the operation and that three shops constructed on a drain near Waris Khan Road were demolished. He added that a majority of the traders failed to produce original documents.
He said the operation would commence in other parts of the city next week, adding that Lahore High Court had strictly ordered to remove encroachments.
LHC Rawalpindi Bench Justice Ibaad-ur-Rehman had earlier directed the district administration, municipal corporation and cantonment boards to remove all encroachments by year end.
He also told the authorities concerned to retrieve state land from illegal occupants, adding that the court would not tolerate any more delays in the operation against encroachments and other illegal structures.
