Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza on Sunday (April 17) said the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project would address the growing traffic problems being faced by the twin cities, news sources reported. In addition, he said that the Nullah Leh Expressway project will also address flood mitigation and environmental sustainability in Rawalpindi.

While speaking to the media, the chairman stated that the authority has meticulously undertaken three multi-billion rupee initiatives to solve the city’s rising traffic problems and reduce pollution. These projects include the PKR 30 billion RRR, the PKR 4.8 billion Kutchery Chowk project, and the PKR 4 billion Defence Chowk redevelopment project.
Furthermore, in addition to reducing pollution in Nulla Leh, the authority has designed the expressway to induce a favourable environmental impact. In addition, the chairman provided information on revenue collection and key initiatives that have taken place during the previous three years. He stated that revenue earned from enterprises in RDA-controlled areas was PKR 6.5 billion between 2017 and 2018, which increased to PKR 12.4 billion between 2018 and 2019. The amount rose to PKR 13.4 billion from 2019 to 2020, and then to PKR 71 billion from 2020 to 2021.

He further stated that at present the authority has a revenue excess of PKR 2 billion for the first time. He also emphasised the city’s sustainable home gardening project, which began with 500 homes.
