Lahore: Departments concerned have disapproved a proposal submitted by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) pertaining to the revised design and cost of the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project, a news source reported. The provincial finance department has also not approved additional funds form the project.
The civic body had requested the Punjab government for revised administrative approval, saying the planning and finance departments approved changes in the project. The two departments asked the civic body to seek additional funds from the competent authority that developed project.
The contractor for OLMT has already announced the installation of the main track. It is a joint venture of China Railways Corporation (CR) and China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO). With the track completed, the main line is now available for the next phase of the project.
CR-NORINCO was responsible for the laying of tracks, supply of trains, and electrical and mechanical works. CR-NRINCO Chief Engineer Feng Shuo stated that overall length of the OLMT track is 25.58 kilometres and there 24 elevated and two underground stations along the route.
OLMT runs north-south along GT Road, Macleod Road, Lake Road, Multan Road, and Raiwind Road. The project is expected to serve up to 250,000 people each day.
Shuo said that OLMT will prove a great asset to Lahore and will greatly facilitate the daily commute of hundreds of thousands of people and help traffic congestion and the resultant environmental pollution.
