Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government recently announced to compensate the farmers whose crops and orchards were destroyed owing to natural calamities in the province – a news source reported. On July 11, the executive had notified amendments previously made to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Relief Compensation Regulation, 2019.
The revised regulation cover the compensation-related matters – including types and rates of crops destroyed, farming procedures adopted for their production, and timelines of losses due to natural calamities. These new policies have been in place since July 1, 2019.

Under the new regulations, crops such as wheat, rice, maize, sugarcane, cotton, tobacco, vegetables, barley, pulses and others would be compensated at the rate of PKR 5,000 per acre, or a maximum amount of PKR 50,000 per family. Similarly, compensation for damaged orchards will be paid at the rate of PKR 400, or a maximum amount of PKR 40,000 per family.
A committee headed by the assistant commissioner has been tasked with assessing the cases according to documents and records. The committee members include representatives of the agriculture department, tehsildar of the relevant revenue circle, and halqa patwari.
