Lahore: The district administration has formed a review committee to assess the recommendations voiced by the traffic police for reforming the city’s traffic system, a news source reported.
The most important among the traffic police’s recommendations is the removal of signal-free corridors in the city. The police’s contention is that wrong road planning and shoddy designing has resulted in increased traffic congestion, violations of one-way rules, and motor vehicle accidents.
The traffic police had previously informed the Lahore Commissioner regarding the dismal situation of the signal-free corridors on Jail Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, and Ferozepur Road. They made particular mention of the increased traffic violations and accidents that continue to occur within them. .
Moreover, the plan has also resulted in increased costs due to the construction of overhead bridges.
The committee will review the plans for signal free corridors on the abovementioned roads. Safe City Authority, Rescue 1122, and the other government departments concerned, have been asked to provide their reports on the situation.
