Karachi: United States (US) Consul General Mark Stroh announced on Monday (September 20) that the US government will help Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to restore and renovate Frere Hall-Karachi, according to media reports.

The US Consul General was accompanied by Cultural Affairs Specialist Dr Kaleem Lashari, Deputy Consul General and Cultural Officer of the US Consulate, KMC Metropolitan Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, Director General Parks and Horticulture Liaqat Ali Khan Qaimkhani and other officials.
It was mentioned that Administrator Karachi and Barrister Murtaza Wahab welcomed the US Consul General and other guests at the Frere Hall and visited different areas of the building. As per sources, the US Consul General showed interest in Saddiqen Art Gallery and Frere Hall Library.

During the visit, Cultural Affairs Specialist Dr Kaleem Lashari briefed the guests on the historical background of the building. He went on to say that the building was among the important buildings that were constructed in Karachi during British rule. He disclosed that, initially, it was transformed into a town hall and library but, later, an art gallery was established to showcase calligraphy and paintings.
