Gujrat: The reconstruction work has started on the old Grand Trunk (G.T.) Road at Kathala Railway Crossing, where the road was in the worst condition, according to news published on Thursday (November 25).

As per the details, the locals and businessmen were requesting the restoration of the G.T road that passed through Gujrat city. It was also mentioned that the Gujrat city was expanding towards the Kathala railway crossing, near the River Chenab, which demanded reconstruction of the road.
Sharing details about the project, Deputy Commissioner Mehtab Waseem Azhar revealed that the road will be constructed from Kathala Chenab to Rehmania Bridge and over the Bhimbher stormwater channel. He went on to say that this project will beautify the city’s entrance as streetlights will be installed and greenbelts will be developed along the road.

Reportedly, the restoration of the G.T. road was approved by the Punjab government at the cost of PKR 1 billion upon the recommendation of the Federal Minister for Water Resources Moonis Elahi. Initially, PKR 250 million had been allocated for the project in Punjab’s annual development budget. According to the authorities concerned, the project will be completed within a year.
