Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan has directed the concerned authorities to speed up the development work on roads that lead to tourist destinations and restoration of several archaeological sites in the province, a news source reported on January 10.

The CM chaired a meeting to review the progress on the rehabilitation of archaeological sites and the construction of approach roads to tourist destinations. During the meeting, the chief minister revealed that a huge investment has been made during the last four years for attracting international and local tourists and promoting tourism in the region.
It was highlighted that promoting tourism in the region will help generate revenue and employment opportunities. He went on to say that he was personally monitoring the development projects related to the tourism sector. The CM has also directed the construction of walking tracks to make tourist sites more accessible.

Moreover, the attendees were informed about the progress on remodelling and rehabilitation of Mankyal and Thandiani Roads. The projects are expected to be completed by October 2024, at a total cost of PKR 3.4 billion and PKR 2.5 billion, respectively. During the meeting, the attendees were briefed on the steps that are being taken to promote cultural and religious tourism. CM Khan also mentioned that three integrated tourism zones were being set up to promote organised and eco-friendly tourism.
