Karachi: All Pakistan Restaurant Association (APRA) Convener Athar Chawla has requested Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan to issue a relief package for the restaurant industry to alleviate its severe financial downturn accrued in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus lockdown, a news source reported.

In his appeal, Chawla requested the PM to make all daily wagers and workers associated with restaurants across Pakistan qualify for financial support of PKR 12,000 under the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme. He further mentioned that approximately 2.5 million are associated with 100,000 restaurants across the country. With the COVID-19 pandemic leaving catastrophic impact on business activity, he said, people are in urgent need of financial assistance.

The APRA convener also requested the PM to completely waive off the monthly rent for restaurants during the lockdown and grant a 50% rental concession for the next six months. He also request the federal government to withdrawn sales tax on restaurants on their utility bills till December 2020.
