Peshawar: Residents of Umerabad in the suburbs of Peshawar have filed a writ petition in Peshawar High Court for a lack of high school in the area, according to a news report. The petition maintains that the area having a population of around 20,000 doesn’t have a high school either for girls or boys which is causing the area to lag behind in education.
The petition maintains that because of lack of schools the residents are lagging behind severely in literacy rates, causing them to remain uneducated. The petition also maintains that it is the constitutional duty of the state to provide education to all its citizens and this is a lapse in state’s constitutional duty. The petition demands that government should ensure opportunities of education for the residents of Umerabad.
The residents of Umarabad have to travel several kilometres away Chamkani for school which is a problem particularly for girls.
