The said request was made during a meeting held between Rescue 1122 District Emergency Head Shahid Waheed and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Kashif Anwar. Waheed stated at the meeting that fire hydrants should be installed in all commercial marketplaces and plazas as part of public-private collaboration and for public safety and company security. He stated that Rescue 1122 has begun issuing building safety certifications, but the biggest impediment is a lack of sufficient infrastructure in most of the buildings. He asked that the LCCI president play a role in persuading trade bodies to follow the safety process in order to avoid any loss of life or property during fire incidents.

On the occasion, Waheed also emphasized the technical challenges experienced by rescue workers when extinguishing fires in some of the most notorious fire incidents in the past due to a lack of fire safety standards. It is worth noting that the Punjab government has tasked Rescue 1122 with inspecting multi-story residential and commercial structures, issuing certifications, and fining owners who violate safety measures.
