Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed civic authorities to submit a report on action taken against the commercial use of residential land, a news source reported. A division bench, headed by Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, issued the orders.
The bench was hearing a petition filed by Advocate Attaullah who prayed the high court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the authorities concerned over their alleged failure to implement the court’s orders of 2012.
The bench, while expressing displeasure over non-compliance of the orders, directed Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar, Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), project director of Lines Area Development Authority (LADA), and other department/officials concerned to address the matter.
Last week, Lahore High Court (LHC) had passed similar orders when it sought a report from the director of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on commercial activities being carried out on residential land.
LDA Director General Amna Imran Khan submitted a report on commercialisation of residential land in the court. LHC Justice, while expressing dissatisfaction on the report, said the policies of LDA had led to the destruction of many residential areas.
