Lahore: Authorities concerned have so far retrieved over 53,700 kanals of land from illegal occupants and encroachers, a news source reported. A report in this regard was presented to Lahore Division Commissioner Dr Mujtaba Paracha.
According to the report, the land retrieved is worth PKR 20.935 billion. Dr Paracha said that the anti-encroachment operation was underway in Shah Alam Market, Barkat Market and other notable areas of the provincial capital.
He said that the departments concerned also registered 158 FIRs and imposed a fine of at least PKR 800,000 on violators.
The anti-encroachment operation is part of a wider campaign initiated by the Punjab government in its bid to retrieve state land, spread over hundreds of thousands of acres from land mafias and remodel the city under a master plan.
Besides, utmost efforts are being made to restore Mughal and British era structures and establishments, including the Shah Alam Market, to their original state.
