Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Interior on Friday approved the Islamabad Rent Restriction Amendment Bill 2020 in order to protect the rights of both tenants and landlords, according to news sources.

Previously, both the National Assembly Standing Committee and the National Assembly approved the bill. It has now been sent to the Senate for final approval. For decades, landlords and renters have demanded that the Islamabad Rent Restriction Ordinance 2001 be amended.
Senator Mohsin Aziz presided over the committee meeting, which was held at the old Pips Hall of Parliament Lodges, and Senator Seemi Ezdi presented the bill.
Islamabad Rent Restriction Amendment Bill 2020 states the following:
- All the agreements between landlord and tenant will be presented before a rent controller, so they can keep a record.

- The payments related to the tenancy agreement will be made through a cross cheque.
- The rent of the commercial and residential building will increase by 10% annually.
- A mediation council will be set up for conflict resolution.
