As per the publication, the district commissioner said that the Punjab government was facilitating the development and completion of the Allama Iqbal Industrial City SEZ project — with the venture falling under the auspices of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative. DC Ali made these comments while presiding over a meeting that was attended by senior officials, including Chairman FIEDMC Mian Kashif Ashfaq and Regional Police Officer Raja Riffat Mukhtar.

The divisional commissioner took the opportunity to form a high-level committee of three members to deal with the lingering issue of illegal encroachments in the city, including those located on FIEDMC lands. The meeting decided in principle to remove encroachments from the 7000-acres lands allotted to the three SEZs and utilise them in a better way. The meeting also discussed the suggested route map of a dual carriageway from Sahiwanwala to Chiniot and Khurrianwala Interchange.
