Karachi: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered that all encroachments on amenity plots and footpaths in Karachi are to be removed within 15 days, according to a news source. These directives were issued to the cantonment boards, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, and other relevant civic agencies.
This was in response to a petition filed against these encroachments, which was heard by a three-member bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar. The bench enquired from Mayor Waseem Akhtar as to the timeline in which these encroachments will be removed and asked about the progress.
Akhtar update the bench about the ongoing progress of various anti-encroachment operations in the city, stating that the majority of encroachments in Empress Market have been removed and the rest of the city is to follow. The relevant authorities were instructed to remove these encroachments on public parks, footpaths, and amenity plots as soon as possible and submit a compliance report within 15 days.
