Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has approved the remodelling of the Defence Chowk along with the constructions of an interchange and a flyover to encourage smooth traffic flow and ease congestion in the area, according to news sources.

The Punjab Planning and Development Department (P&D) has directed the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) – project’s executing agency – to prepare the project’s feasibility report. The project has already received approval from the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP).
The provincial government has also approved the remodelling project of Kacheri Chowk with an interchange and flyover. The process of awarding a contract to conduct the project feasibility report is currently underway.
As per reports, the Defence Chowk is the second busiest intersection in the city, after the Kacheri Chowk. It gets traffic from all major city ways like Gulistan Colony, Morgarh, Al- Shifa Eye Trust, Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Grand Trunk (GT) Road (from Kacheri side) and GT Road (from Lahore side).
