Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah recently approved of a project to remodel the Mehmoodabad Nullah, a news source reported. This venture will be part of a larger initiative launched to clean all the drains in the city — with the aforementioned nullah to be remodeled in the first phase of the operation.
While presiding over a meeting at the CM House to review a study conducted by the NED University on this particular nullah, CM Murad stated that the provincial government wanted to resolve the issue with drain pipes for good so that urban flooding could be avoided in the future. NED University Vice Chancellor Dr Sarosh Lodhi also took the opportunity to brief the CM on the nullah’s current condition.

Lodhi informed the CM that most of the artificially constructed drains in the city were being discharged into the Mehmoodabad Nullah. In reply, the CM said that the Sindh government would construct an 80-metre long channel so that water could flow naturally. He further asked the NED University team to conduct a parallel study to figure out whether a separate drain would work better than a conduit to drain out sewage from the said nullah.
