Islamabad: Advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh chaired a meeting to discuss the relief package for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country, a news source reported.

Later, the Finance Ministry issued a statement which outlined the assistance package. According to details, the package will focus on both formal and informal SMEs with 5-30 employees which have faced losses recently.
Shaikh said that the primary purpose of the package will be to ensure that those attached to these businesses are not laid off. The meeting discussed various solutions to the issues particularly on how to continue the production and make profits, in turn, enabling the businesses to pay employees.

The meeting also discussed the proposal to provide IT skills to businesses in order to boost their productivity and financial returns. To this effect, the authorities concerned would seek assistance from Small and Medium Enterprises Authority (SMEDA) and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) for the implementation of the package.
