Rawalpindi: Developmental work to rehabilitate the rundown Gwal Mandi Road, which connects Rawalpindi Cantt with the rest of the city, has been initiated — a news source reported. As per the publication, the contractor hired for the project has been directed to complete the patch work required for the functioning of the road section that connects Railway Burj with the Main Gwal Mandi Road; latest by Saturday (December 21).

According to the details available, the road is expected to be open to traffic by Sunday (December 22). The contractor has been further directed to ensure that quality is maintained during the final execution of the project.
The run down condition of the road has been a cause for major concern for commuters, with the situation getting much worse during rainy weather. The residents of the area and individuals who have to use the road in question regularly have been urging the authorities concerned to conduct repair work for a while now.

The authorities overseeing the rehabilitation have announced that the road will also feature a proper mechanism for water drainage and sewerage — in order to facilitate commuters, and particularly pedestrians.
