Lahore: Local Government and Community Development (LG&CD) department Chief Engineer Basharat Javaid has approved the PC-1 for a new project pertaining to the rehabilitation of Lahore’s Walled City, a news source reported. As per the publication, the Punjab Planning & Development (P&D) Department received the PC-1 at a revised cost of PKR 1,739,670,000.

According to the proposal, the authorities concerned will be responsible for the rehabilitation of the Shahi Hamam, Dehli Gate, Kashmiri Bazaar, and Akbari Mandi. The project will also include the rehabilitation, repair, and beautification of buildings along the stretch of Chowk Purani Kotwali to Akbari Gate, Lahore Fort to Moti Bazaar via Chowk Choona Mandi, and Sunehri Masjid to Dubbi Bazaar.
In order to make the entire area safe, the project will additionally involve the installation of a new sewerage and drainage system, water supply lines, repair and construction of streets and roads, and other uplift works.
In order to complete the project, the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) will have the assistance of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGP), City Government, Board of Revenue, Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA), Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), Housing Department, Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), International Development Agency, and other relevant departments.

The WCLA will also be able to count on the support of the Punjab Government and the World Bank for the final execution of the project.
