Karachi: Sindh Minister for Human Settlement Ghulam Murtaza Baloch has announced that the provincial government is working to regularise 360 katchi abadis in the province, a news source reported. He also revealed that the province hosted 1,429 slums and 962 of these settlements were yet to be regularised.

The minister shared this information while presiding over a meeting of the Sindh Katchi Abadi Authority on Tuesday. Secretary for Katchi Abadis Ahmed Bux Nareejo, Katchi Abdi director general, along with regional directors, and other officials concerned were all present at the occasion.

The minister directed the officers concerned to implement the Katchi Abadi Policy 1997-2003 in order to provide maximum benefits to slum dwellers. Moreover, he ordered that meetings be held with Larkana deputy commissioner and municipal commissioner to grant lease to the katchi abadis located in the city.

Recalling the directives issued by the Supreme Court, the minister instructed the officers concerned to cancel lease of amenity plots in these slums. Furthermore, he ordered the formation of a resettlement plan for katchi abadis in collaboration with the Association of Builders and Developers.
