Islamabad: World Bank Senior Economist Gonzalo Valera on Wednesday emphasised the need to introduce reforms in Pakistan’s e-commerce sector, a news source reported. He further stated that Pakistan had one of the lowest internet penetrations in the world; hindering the growth of businesses in the country.

Valera was speaking at an online dialogue on ‘E-commerce – the scope and facilitation’ organised by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI).
Other participants also agreed that e-commerce offers great prospects for businesses and economy in Pakistan but the government will need to play a major role in providing the proper framework for the purpose.

USAID Chief of Party Hussan Bano Burko also spoke on the occasion and emphasised the need for timely action so Pakistan could benefit from opportunities in the digital space while it is available.
