Mansehra: The people living in shelters in Balakot’s red-zone have expressed optimism that they could finally get plots in the New Balakot City housing project, according to a news report. The new-found optimism comes after the Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJ) Saqib Nisar took suo moto notice of the issue.
According to details, the CJ took suo moto notice of embezzlement in USD 5 billion financial assistance from the international community for rehabilitation of 2005 earthquake survivors. These details were shared by the councillor Mohammad Safdar Awan in a meeting held in Balakot.
The meeting was attended by survivors settled in the red-zone since the 2005 earthquake that hit Balakot severely. The meeting unanimously adopted a resolution demanding CJ to ensure allotment of plots to them in the New Balakot City housing project without any further delay.
Awan stated that the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority has started allotting plots on paper, however, this housing project worth PKR 12 billion is to be completed.
