Karachi: Land encroachment is a major issue in Karachi and in a bid to help people retrieve their plots in areas and housing schemes falling under the jurisdiction of Karachi Development Authority (KDA), a proper mechanism has been introduced, according to a post shared by local news channel today (April 14).
Reportedly, KDA has a fully functional Estate & Enforcement (E&E) cell in place that deals with the encroachment of land falling in its domain. Speaking on behalf of the KDA, the news source has clarified that the KDA is responsible for retrieving plots from illegal occupation before handing over possession to the allottees. Once allottees take possession of their property, the responsibility lies with them. In other words, allottees can only approach KDA to retrieve a plot from the land mafia which is not in their possession yet.

The affectees of such situations can register their complaints with KDA’s E&E office by following simple steps:
1. Visit the E&E Director office at Civic Centre’s 3rd floor, along with all the documents.
2. Attach a written complaint along with documents containing details of the location and allocation of the plot (which is not in their possession yet)
3. Upon receiving the complaint, the E&E Director will verify the documents from KDA Land Department and issue orders to remove encroachments. This process takes about 15 to 20 days.
4. After issuance of the order to remove the encroachment, KDA sets a date to launch an anti-encroachment drive.
5. Before reaching the encroached land, the KDA team will have the local police clear the area.
As per the news source, Arshad Abbas is the current KDA E&E Director and will be heading these operations. For more information and updates, stay tuned to Zameen News.
