Mirpur: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Muhammad Afzal on Thursday said that the reconstruction of affected houses in September 2019’s quake-hit areas would begin once the legal modalities are dealt with, a news source reported.

As per the publication, he also confirmed provision of financial relief for the injured persons.
Afzal announced this during the inauguration of a Women and Children Welfare Centre at Afazalpur which was attended by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative to Pakistan Ms. Lina Mousa, Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Dr Geoffrey Shaw, and First Secretary-Development Anna Dyason, among other officials.

The chairman highlighted that the federal government had already given financial assistance to the families of those who lost lives during the earthquake. He reiterated that NDMA was acting fast to ensure fast rehabilitation.

Owing to NDMA’s initial assessment of the quake-hit areas (which revealed that women and children were the most affected) the authority has focused on the development of Women and Children Welfare Centre to relieve their concerns and provide a healthy environment.
