Islamabad: The reconstituted commission for the execution and revision of the master plan of the capital city will meet on Monday (August 30) to sort out issues with the city’s infrastructure and planning, according to press reports.

The commission will especially address Zone IV and Zone III problems. The federal government established the panel in 2018 to evaluate Islamabad’s Master Plan, which is supposed to be revised every 20 years.
However, there has been no change to the design since it was initially developed in the 1960s. Only 43 modifications have been made since then. The panel to evaluate the master plan last convened in 2019, and a technical consulting firm was to be hired to assess the process, but it was unable to do so for a various reasons.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the reconstituted commission plans to engage a consultant as soon as possible and complete the modification within a year. The three-member commission is meeting after a 1.5 years gap under the chairmanship of Maj Gen (Retired) Farrakh Javed, architects Murad Jamali and Sikandar Ajam. The commission will set forth important policy guidelines for the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
