Lahore: The water commission’s report to the Lahore High Court (LHC) has recommended the formation of a water police force to curb water theft, a news source reported. The report has also recommended the introduction of a new water act to provide clean drinking water to the citizens.

The report has also expressed its reservations about the current system for Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA). The report recommends giving more powers to the agency to make it more effective. The report has also recommended the immediate establishment of the water treatment plant.

The report was submitted to LHC by Syed Kamal Haider, on behalf of the Chairman Water Commission Justice (retd) Ali Akbar Qureshi. The report spans 50 pages.
The report also expressed its reservations about Punjab Water Policy 2018. It said that the policy focuses only on provision of water to agriculture, and not on the provision of clean drinking water to citizens.
