Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Monday (June 27) issued a warning to the residents of the areas around Nullah Leh to relocate to other places before the start of the monsoon season, news sources reported. The residents have been asked to repair their dilapidated shops and houses before the start of the season.

Reportedly, the people were warned in order to avoid any unfortunate situations caused by the upcoming monsoon season, which is projected to bring more rain than usual. RDA Director-General Tahir Zafar Abbasi stated that all preventive steps have been taken to assure the inhabitants’ safety. The municipal corporation, in collaboration with the RDA, has also given a warning to the owners of the dilapidated structures to dismantle them before the start of the season, failing which stern action would be taken against the residents.

It is vital to mention that Nullah Leh is a flood channel that was created to provide a safe path for the water which is collected during the monsoon season. However, the land encroachment around the Nullah Leh results in property destruction each year. The RDA initiated the drive this year as a precautionary measure to ensure safety.
