Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has decided to conduct third-party verification for finalising the Rawalpindi Ring Road’s (RRR) route, according to news published in the leading newspaper on August 26.

As per the details, the RDA will restart work on two major projects RRR and Rawal Expressway and Flood Channel (previously known as Leh Nullah Expressway and Flood Channel). A senior official of RDA (whose name was not disclosed) mentioned that the federal government has asked the authority to conduct verification for choosing one of the existing alignments of the RRR project. Taking opinions from consultant firms, the government will decide the final route of RRR. Reportedly, the government has cancelled the old alignment and devised a new 38-kilometre alignment, from Rawat to Motorway.
Talking about the Rawal Expressway and Flood Channel Project, a senior official (whose name was not disclosed) revealed that the authority has decided not to acquire land around Leh Nullah. He mentioned that the government has directed the construction of a two-way road and cemented nullah. He added that the focus is on the road on both sides and the sewer line.

Moreover, the 22-kilometre-long signal-free corridor from Kutchery Chowk to Motorway Chowk will be included in the next fiscal year. Under this project, a flyover and underpasses will be constructed. An official (whose name was undisclosed) revealed that the PC-1 of the project was submitted to the Punjab Planning and Development Board. He further added that a metro-style bus along the route is also in talks. Deputy Commissioner Tahir Farooq mentioned that underpasses will be built in front of GHQ Chowk, Military Chowl, Pearl Continental Hotel Chowk, and GPO Chowk. The flyover will be established in front of the Race Course Ground.
