Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has decided to resume its operation against illegal societies from next week, a next week onwards, a news source reported.

Previously, the civic agency had postponed the drive against illegal housing schemes for two weeks due to administrative changes introduced in various RDA departments.
RDA Chairman Arif Abbasi said that the authority would conduct a forensic audit of all private schemes in Rawalpindi district. For this purpose, the RDA would issue notices to the societies; asking them to submit their layout plans.

The land revenue department would share details of the land belonging to these private schemes with the RDA. In response, the civic agency would verify the legal status of the societies in question.
The operation is expected to be carried out in a phased manner. Various RDA teams will visit site offices of private residential schemes. Moreover, violators will be ordered to close down their operations.

Abbasi further informed that more than 300 housing societies in the district had been recently declared illegal. He added that the developers would be given a month’s timeframe to get their projects regularised.
