Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has decided to launch a housing scheme for its low-scale employees, a news source reported on August 16. The housing scheme will be launched under Prime Minister Imran Khan’s flagship Naya Pakistan Housing Programme, which is also known as the ‘Apna Ghar Scheme’.

The same news story shares details on the number of illegal housing schemes in Rawalpindi that the RDA has declared illegal. These are a total of 268 such projects that do not fit the RDA’s approval criteria and have thus been declared illegal. The authority has given clearance to 50 housing schemes.
RDA Chairman Tariq Murtaza stated that the authority has compiled a complete list of legal and unlawful housing societies that fall in its jurisdiction. The list is available for citizens’ convenience on the authority’s official website i.e. www.rda.gop.pk.

Reportedly, the authority has fined developers of 91 housing societies and initiated legal procedures against owners of 121 housing schemes that have been declared illegal. Similarly, during its anti-encroachment operation carried out against these housing societies, the authority destroyed and razed the main gates of 61 schemes and sealed the commercial offices of another 135 such projects.
