Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has announced its decision to invite tenders for the development of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project in the last week of September, according to a news report published on September 19. The authority will commence with the process to acquire land for the said project during the said period.
The Punjab Government has already issued funds for the acquisition of the 64-kilometre-long circular road project. As revealed in our previous report, the regional jurisdiction of the RDA had been expanded with the inclusion of 10,000 kanals of land around the Islamabad International Airport in its domain. This particular area was recently declared to be an aerotropolis and will feature several high-end developments; including 5-star hotels, a convention centre and several high-rise buildings and commercial plazas.

According to another news report shared on Sep 20, the ring road will also feature low-cost residential units – to be developed under the government’s Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP). For this purpose, around 6,500 acres of land will be allocated along the route. Last week, the RDA Governing Body also granted its approval for establishing its first housing project by the name of RDA City. The project’s location has not been revealed as of yet but circumstances suggest that it could also be located around the ring road.
Reportedly, the route will also feature developments giving Rawalpindi a modern facelift.
