Aerotropolis is an urban sub-region where ‘infrastructure, economy and land-use are positioned on an airport’. The term itself is a combination of aero (aviation) and metropolis (city).
The proposed aerotropolis in Rawalpindi will reportedly contain petroleum, oil and mining refineries; in addition to residential apartments, special economic zones (SEZs), technology parks, and an engineering complex.

The authority chairman further revealed that there will be no excessive plantations or ponds in this aerotropolis in Rawalpindi as they attract birds and could cause accidents. He also said that this project will play important role in the development of the city.
