Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has been assigned the task of constructing Rawalpindi Ring Road, a news source reported. The 38-kilometre ring road is critical for connecting the twin cities and both Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and Punjab Communications and Works Department (C&W) were under consideration for the construction.
The Punjab Planning and Development (PP&D) has also decided to obtain a loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) of China to fund the project. The foundation stone is to be laid in March 2018, and the project is to be completed in three years.
RDA has been tasked with the preparation of the project concept-I (PC-I) to acquire land for the project. PP&D has directed RDA to devise a PC-I for setting up three project management units for the ring road.
Rawalpindi Ring Road is expected to cost around PKR 47 billion, however, the cost is estimated to increase. However, a separate PC-I will be created for determining the revised cost of the project and for land acquisition.
Last month, the provincial development working party (PDWP) had revised down the PC-II of the project down from PKR 144.414 million to PKR 90.975 million. To lower the costs, PDWP had decided that no project management unit would be formed for the PC-II and that this task will be fulfilled by the executing authority.
