Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has asked the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to freeze the bank accounts of 203 illegal housing societies, along with those of their developers and partners, a news source reported. As per the publication, the authority has also written a letter to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA), asking it to stop the advertisement campaigns of the said residential projects.

The RDA has started employing constitutional means to counter illegal housing societies and has been planning a grand operation to bulldoze their offices, in the presence of police officials. Chairman RDA Tariq Murtaza revealed to the publication that red notices had already been dispatched to the illegal societies and that fake bookings in these housing schemes would not be allowed henceforth.

The chairman stated that the RDA had acquired the bank account numbers of the owners, developers, and partners of the aforementioned housing societies, and that the authority planned on freezing these accounts. He added that the names of both illegal and legal housing societies had been uploaded to the RDA website, and he urged the city’s citizen’s to review the list before buying plots in any housing scheme.

Previously, the RDA had announced the details regarding the locations of various illegal housing societies under its jurisdiction. The authority had also conducted an operation against the illegal societies located near Adyala Road on January 18, and razed down the walls of the under-construction structures in the area.
