The authority plans on launching the project in the next fiscal year. It is expected to ease the traffic on Airport Road.
The previous PC-I costing PKR 634 million was approved by the Punjab government in 2013. However, the work could not be started until 2018, and had to eventually stop due to the general elections.
After the elections, the new provincial government re-launched the project and had it approved by the Punjab Planning and Development Department.

The construction cost of the project has increased since 2013, so a revised PC-I of PKR 800 million has been sent to the provincial cabinet for final approval.
Speaking on the matter, Chief Engineer Amir Rasheed said that the RDA is focusing on mega projects. He added that some road projects would be launched under the Annual Development Programme this year and that the authority is in the process of preparing PC-1 for each of these projects.
