Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has sought assistance from the district Land Revenue Department to demarcate 13 kanals of its land on Murree Road near Liaquat Bagh for the construction of a mega mall, a news source reported. RDA Chairman Arif Abbasi said the authority has all the relevant documents, but they want to inspect the size of the area again.
He said a meeting of RDA directors was held to plan the construction of the mall and 10 parking plazas in the garrison city. He added that the demarcation process would take a week to complete, after which work on PC-I will start.
Abbasi said the meeting decided to consult the National Engineering Services of Pakistan for the mall’s design. He added that RDA would later approach the Punjab government for additional funds to purchase additional land adjacent to RDA’s plot for the project.
He said the RDA committee has been given a week to identify sites for the construction of eight of the 10 parking plazas in the main commercial hub and on Murree Road. He added that the provincial government has ordered the authority to expedite the process of identifying sites for parking plazas as it wants to solve the issue of parking in markets across the city.
The RDA chief said they scrapped a suggestion to construct a parking plaza on a 14-marla land at Committee Chowk as the authority has decided to construct a shopping mall or hotel there.
