Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has requested the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) of China to issue the initial funds for setting up Project Management Unit (PMU) for Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project, reported a news source. The request has been placed by the RDA director general through Planning and Development Department chairman.
The AIIB has already given consent to provide funds worth PKR 47 billion for the project. In this regard, a team of experts representing the bank has already paid three visits to inspect the project and its details. The project was conceived 20 years ago and has faced major delays. The project was brought back to the limelight one year ago, and ever since then, major developments have been carried out to formally start it.
RDA Chairman Arif Ali Abbasi had also proposed to set up industrial zones, economic zones, and an IT University along the road; his proposals are currently under consideration.
