Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza on Tuesday announced that his department would be providing 50 homes in the city with pots, stands and seeds free of cost — for the purpose of setting-up kitchen gardens, according to news sources.
The chairman held a meeting in this regard, which deliberated on the department’s kitchen garden project and its scope. The session was attended by the officers of the Agriculture Department Rawalpindi, RDA Governor Body Member Muqarrab Khan, Director Agriculture Department Rawalpindi Sajjad Haider and other concerned officials from the agricultural and development authorities.

The RDA chairman also directed the attendees to prepare a questionnaire for an initial survey by December 31, in order to gauge the effectiveness of the campaign. He added that departments will train 50 men and women to guide the plantation drive for planting vegetables in the selected number of homes that contain kitchen gardens.

In addition, he stated that kitchen gardening will prove to be a useful and fulfilling hobby that will not only help people grow fresh vegetables in their homes, but help them save money as they would be cheaper that market-bought produce.
