Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) approved the peri-urban structure plan for the tehsils of Kallar Syedan and Gujar Khan in order to protect green areas, according to news published on December 23.

This decision was taken in the 61st meeting of RDA’s governing body chaired by the RDA Chairman Tariq Mahmood Murtaza. It was mentioned that the structure plan will be sent to Deputy Commissioner Shoaib Ali after the approval to discuss it in the District Planning and Design Committee (DPDC).
As per the details, the peri-urban structure plan aims to identify the areas in the tehsils to allocate for industry, housing schemes, educational, and commercial purposes. Under the plan, red lines will be marked to indicate green areas where no structure will be constructed.

RDA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa stated that in the first step the authority has formulated a plan for Gujar Khan and Kallar Syedan. Once it is approved, a similar plan will be prepared for Kahuta and Taxila next month and presented in the next meeting. He went on to say that the DPDC will review the structure plan for Kallar Syedan and Gujar Khan and a public hearing will be organised. After rectifying the objections, the deputy commissioner will notify the areas marked for green spaces, commercial, industrial, and residential areas.
