Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza recently announced that the authority has launched construction work on three pedestrian bridges at different points in the city to maintain traffic flow, according to a news source published on August 4.

As per the RDA Spokesperson, these three pedestrian bridges are being developed at Gulzar-i-Quaid on Airport Road, Nur Khan Air Base Chowk, and Shah Khalid Colony in Rawalpindi. This walkways project has been initiated as result of the local residents’ demand for safer road crossings.

Previously, the Pakistan Air Force Base Commander had been asked to issue a no-objection certificate for the construction of pedestrian bridges on Airport Road. The Punjab government had also earmarked PKR 110 million in the budget of (fiscal year) FY2019-20 for this purpose. Now, the bridges are being developed to facilitate foot traffic and avoid undue accidents.
