Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) will commence work on the Kutchery Chowk project in January 2022, news sources reported. The PKR 3.8 billion project includes a 1-kilometer long and two-lane wide underpass to reduce traffic pressure at the city’s main choke point.

Reportedly, NESPAK completed the project’s final design and feasibility study, which was then presented to the Planning and Development (P&D) Board for approval. The project will be followed by the commencement of construction work on the Defence Chowk project, another megaproject in the city aimed at alleviating traffic congestion.

While speaking to the media, RDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza stated that the project has undergone significant changes and that the much-awaited underpass would be built to accommodate double-decker buses. Similarly, the Mall Road, Jhelum Road, Rashid Minhas Road, and Adyala Road will be linked to the chowk.
