As per the SBP, the RDA initiative hit the USD 2 billion mark on August 14. The apex bank thanked the overseas Pakistanis for their trust and response to initiatives launched under the RDA. According to experts, the overseas Pakistanis have invested in different services offered by the programme. It was also reported that the remittance inflows will increase as and when the central bank introduces new investment opportunities.
In a tweet, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib stated that the increased remittance inflow depicts the confidence and trust of non-resident Pakistanis in the policies of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.
RDA was launched by PM Imran Khan in September 2020 for overseas Pakistanis to enable them to open bank accounts in Pakistan remotely. It was a joint effort of SBP, the federal government and eight commercial banks.
