Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza on Saturday (February 19) decided to conduct a joint survey with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for deciding the boundaries between the two cities, news sources reported. A joint panel will be constituted to examine the boundaries of both authorities and resolve tax collection issues.

The commission’s recommendation was made during the RDA’s 58th governing body meeting, which was presided over by RDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood. He stated that the delimitation panel would determine which territories are under the authority of Islamabad and which are under the control of the RDA. This would improve services for inhabitants of boarding areas while increasing revenue for the authorities. It was reported that several residents now receive No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the CDA even though they live in the RDA region. As a result, property tax collection has decreased.

The committee also discussed the legalisation of illegal housing schemes before 1989 (RDA formation date). RDA’s Metropolitan Planning & Traffic Engineering (MP&TE) department members will serve on the commission. The panel will investigate the mortgage status and the extent of the schemes’ development.
