Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) booked cases against owners of ten illegal housing societies in the city, a news source reported. Additionally, the civic body sent red notices to around 34 housing schemes and issued challans to another 25 housing projects.

The RDA Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering director also disclosed of writing to relevant authorities in matters pertaining to illegal housing societies in Rawalpindi. These included the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The development authority has put up a request to launch investigations, freeze accounts and block advertisements related to these societies, the official added.
The director stated that the civic body has warned these illegal housing societies in Rawalpindi to not to initiate residential project, apartment blocks or any commercial ventures in the city without obtaining the required approvals and documents from RDA. He also warned the public against investing in these illegal housing societies.

On the other hand, the RDA official also urged the sponsors to stop marketing for unapproved housing schemes in the city. Otherwise, he added, RDA would take strict legal action against them.
